“How to Repair a Marriage in 16 Hours”

So this blog title is the headline for a recent Wall Street Journal article with the sub-heading that said ‘High impact’ couples therapy is costly, intense—and, its fans say, more effective than traditional counseling. Here’s the link to the article: https://on.wsj.com/3vGUyuS. Here at Lifeworks, this is nothing new as we’ve been doing High-Impact therapy for years - we call them intensives. For couples we offer group intensives or One-to-One Intensives. The big difference in choosing to do a couples intensive with us is that you will, not only be working with one individual therapist, you will be working with two trained therapists, that also happen to be married for over 42 years, and together have a combined 60 years of experience working with couples at some level of marital crisis, either as peer coaches or licensed clinical therapists. Here’s more from the article (which we agree with wholeheartedly):

High-impact couples therapy is a more intensive and focused approach to traditional couples counseling. It's designed to address and resolve relationship issues more quickly and deeply. Here's a breakdown of what it is and how it can benefit couples:

  • Focus and Intensity: Unlike traditional weekly sessions, high-impact couples therapy condenses sessions into a shorter period, often over several days with multiple hours each day. This immersion allows couples to focus solely on their issues without daily distractions.

  • Addressing Issues: This type of therapy tackles a wide range of relational problems, including frequent arguments, emotional disconnection, healing from infidelity and betrayal trauma, and even helping couples decide their relationship's future if they are not married.

  • Benefits: The concentrated format can lead to breakthroughs that traditional therapy might miss. Couples learn to identify negative communication patterns and develop healthier ways to resolve conflict. They also gain skills for building a deeper emotional connection.

Here are some things to think about with high-impact couples therapy (a couples intensive):

  • Is it right for you? This type of therapy is ideal for couples who are highly motivated to work on their relationship and want to see results quickly If you're considering divorce or have experienced significant betrayal, high-impact therapy (an intensive) can be a powerful tool.

  • Finding a therapist: Look for a therapist trained in this specific approach. They should have experience helping couples with similar issues to yours.

We have several intensive offerings here at Lifeworks Counseling. Couples Intensives, Men’s Intensives, Partner Intensives (spouses dealing with betrayal trauma) have been a part of our practice from the outset, as we understand the tremendous benefits gained using this model rather than the typical one hour a week model. Here’s a quote from a recent attendee, “The couples intensive was the most amazing experience of our lives! We learned so much as Eva and Roane worked seamlessly, tirelessly, and so empathically. It was truly worth every penny!” Check out the dates for our upcoming intensives under the Programs tab at the top of the page on our website.
